Clinical Hypnotherapy in Chester

Nicola Tarbuck MBSCH PDCH CNHC

I aim to provide every client with a calm, compassionate, non-judgmental, and confidential space to overcome any issues or difficulties that arise, and support them in living life more fully.

My clients come from private referrals, Anxiety UK, and through Abel Occupational Health Resolutions.

During the past twenty-five years, I’ve been supporting people’s healing journey, whether that is recovering from a back injury or dealing with chronic pain.

Since 2016, I shifted my practice to focus on supporting clients with their mental health through clinical hypnotherapy.

In 2022, alongside my private practice, I joined the school counselling service at a school in London for two years, supporting girls and young women through a range of mental health issues, a role I absolutely loved and found extremely rewarding; however, I now offer support exclusively to adults.

I understand that choosing a therapist and style of therapy can feel daunting, but trust your instincts, and if it feels right, give me a call. We can discuss your needs and make a plan. And if necessary, I may be able to refer you to another professional in the field. The important part is reaching out and taking that first step.

The first session will involve a detailed assessment, during which you will have the space to share whatever is on your mind.

My therapeutic approach is person-centred, solution-focused, and integrative, which means we may work with a range of therapies tailored to suit your needs. I have a big toolbox for us to explore together to find what works for you.

I offer one-on-one appointments, available online or in person at my location on Sealand Road, Chester.

I hold professional memberships with the British Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists (BSCH), the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), the Craniosacral Society (CSS), the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT), and am a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  I’m also an approved therapist for Anxiety UK.

I hold an updated full DBS certificate.

My first career was contemporary dance, which I loved, but in 1994, while I was at university, I injured my knee and back.

At that point, I discovered the power of Pilates, and I will always be grateful for the weekly remedial sessions I had, as they were crucial to my recovery.

However, something else happened during those sessions that changed the course of my life. I had witnessed other dancers who were injured, and I became aware then that I wanted to be able to help others. I re-trained as a Pilates teacher, and my career took off.

My passion is to help others

I trained in all aspects of health, fitness, healing, and bodywork, which provided me with the knowledge and skills necessary to support individuals recovering from injury. My career path was determined, and as my reputation grew, I began working internationally with many wonderful people.

Through my clients’ recommendations to their friends and colleagues, I was very busy. For example, I introduced Gary Barlow to Pilates. We worked together rehabilitating his back after he climbed Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief.  I had the pleasure of working with him and his wife for over seven years.

My experience has helped other artists, such as Bruce Springsteen, Robert Plant, and Pink Floyd, stay on top of their game with my intuitive bodywork and healing practices. To sing on stage, you need more than just a voice coach.

I’m particularly proud of my work assisting the head physiotherapist at Cirque Du Soleil on four tours around Argentina. I provided physical therapy, posture correction, and Pilates and Yoga classes in between shows. This experience helped me deepen my understanding of how the body and mind impact each other.

Always learning to support others better.

I’m always striving to understand the mind-body connection so that I can help my clients more effectively. In 2017, I realised I wanted to understand how our minds work even more, and went on to study stress management, hypnotherapy, EMDR, and psychological trauma. I hold a Level 3 counselling certificate and am currently pursuing my advanced counselling training.

I’ve been working in private practice for more than twenty years, and in 2022, I worked for a school counselling service in Ealing for two years, supporting girls and young women with their mental health challenges.

I now support people with anxiety disorders, trauma, and chronic health conditions.

My journey is ongoing, and I am excited about the new opportunities this next chapter of my life is bringing, as well as the people I will be able to help with my skills and experience.
